With the new Mura big block power in the Beretta, Zak has officially kissed “the tens” goodbye by at least two and a quarter seconds. Congrats for breaking solidly into the officially serious zone with a bunch of back to back 7.74 ET blasts at MRP this weekend. Deep into the sevens—on a mild break-in tune-up with lots more on tap—that’s what you had in mind back then right?

And to think, it all started with the Super Surrey Vega; a car that wouldn’t go in reverse and was built so the tranny couldn’t come out. Good times.

First off, the Kondolay’s strapped blocks to the pedals and put a phone book under the seat cushion of Stephan’s digger so that “Little Al” Hampton would be able to see over the cowl. Once that was taken care of, Hampton jumped in and clicked off a 7.72 ET—good enough to upgrade his license! In the first round of Super Combo, Hampton—still in the dragster—was robbed when the sun reflecting off his shit-eating grin caused a red light.  The day could have ended much worse for him though when his boner got in the way of steering off track onto the return road. Boing!

Speaking of the Kondolays, Stephan predicted he’d win Super Pro and did just that on Saturday. But Sunday morning he beat up the transmission in the dragster and it was done for the weekend. In the second car swap of the weekend, Stephan jumped in Pete Bereditsch’s bitchin’ Camaro for Super Pro. Unfortunately, the old man’s tranny couldn’t take the beating and expired in the third round. When Stephan hit the burner, the car backed out of the beams for an automatic red light. Even with the loss, Stephan Kondolay is leading this seasons S/Pro points!

In other news, Zak Clarke is apparently tired of playing on the ’slow’ side of the Door Slammer ladder. He plans on dominating the ‘Dingers with a little more grunt in the Beretta this year. Zak’s quote: “It’s got the chirp!” He’ll have the Beretta and it’s new big-inch bullet out this weekend at MRP. I wonder if Zak will need to change his pants after the first blast?

Oh yeah… did you hear the news? They found MacKenzie’s trailer!

From the “Just because I can” department, this post is being made while eating breakfast at the Bread Garden. Technology rocks!

Apparently, Zak is in a mad thrash at MRP trying to get a replacement trans and converter in the Baretta to stay in competition today. Good luck buddy; if I could be there I would be!

Ken “Numba 1” Orser, Joe “Top Wop” Mura, Stefan “The Robot” Kondolay and myself are en route to the NHRA Division 6 ET Finals in Boise, Idaho to represent Team On A Mission. Hopefully, one of us wins and earns a spot in the NHRA World Finals in Pomona, California!

In what has to be the quickest SIAH update ever, it appears that Team Surrey In A Hurry members kicked ass and took names this weekend at the final race of this years NHRA Northwest National Open Series in Portland, OR.

Joe “Top Wop” Mura is making the long tow home as the 2008 National Open Series Top Comp CHAMPION! No details yet on who he raced or how he did, but as the info comes in it’ll get posted here.

Not to be outdone, it looks like Jason “Piston Broke” Gibson dragging his wounded Mustang all the way down wasn’t such a bad idea after all. No details either yet on how he did it, but Jason is this year’s National Open Series Super Pro CHAMPION! Running on a cracked piston…

Future drag racing superstar Justin “Where’s my Shirt?” Gibson wasn’t letting his Dad and Joe take all the glory. Making it three for three, Justin is now the 2008 National Open Series Junior Dragster CHAMPION! Again, no details on the racing yet, but that sure beats losing to a girl, huh?

Hey, speaking of girls and Jr Dragsters, apparently Kayla Allen now has to detail Zak Clarke’s Beretta. Seems she challenged Zak to a reaction time shootout.

Kayla, Kayla, Kayla… you’ll learn. Never, ever, ever challenge Zak (or accept a challenge from him) on ANYTHING. He’s got voodoo luck; things will almost always go his way. You can’t win!

With a Wally on the line, Team SIAH’s Joe “Top Wop” Mura was on the wrong side of 0.008 second margin of victory. It started well, with the Wop’s 0.009 RT just edging out George Evans 0.016. The starting line advantage wasn’t enough though when Evans 7.60 something on a 7.60 when Joe’s 7.475 (7.46 dial) left too much room. Looks like Joe didn’t have an easy go to get to the final either, having to get by the human robot Stefan Kondolay in the semis.

It was almost like deju vu all over again with SIAH’s own Zak Clarke up against Chris Cannon over in Super Gas. After a slight victory on the tree (Clarke: 0.011 / Cannon: 0.016) Zak took a little too much stripe, running under with a 9.897 to a 9.909 over in the other lane. This one was for a Wally too… Damn!

SIAH founding member Zak Clarke and his Baretta have been on an absolute tear the season. He was looking to add to his slate of wins and bring home the Team’s third Wally of the July 12th / 13th weekend at the ‘Plex .

In what is about to be the longest sentance ever put down, Zak paired up with the bitchin’ Camaro driven by Lane Wooley for the 12th Annual Aurora Electronics Night Drags and Christmas in July final round of the Canada West Doorslammers class sponsored by Surrey In A Hurry. Whew! Still with me? Anyways, It was Baretta against Berlinetta, and the race was over in the first hundredths of a second… literally.

Zak scored a 0.020-something RT while Lane, in the other lane, put up a 0.150-ish light. Unfortunately though, that’s not why the race was over so soon. It seems that after only 800 or so passes, Zak’s ring and pinion decided to expire. Lane lifted at the 100 foot mark to ensure the win, despite another team’s diminutive crew member chanting “Run out, Lane… Run it OUT, Lane… RUN IT OUT, LANE…” hoping for a breakout mistake. Oh wel… you win some you loose some. At least the prize money for second place was $100 dollars bills, not like the stack of tens they paid out for the win.

As Zak and the Baretta enjoyed a slow tow back to the pits, Pro winner Corey Thompson dove across thetrack wall to bring out a frosty refreshment. As they say: Win or Lose, Hit the Booze!

Hey, speaking of Zak, Corey and diminutive crew members… It shows that getting a good night’s sleep before the race is a smart thing to do. Seems that those guys, plus Brian Barbie and a few other dedicated racers benefitted from the rest by all but owning the final rounds of Pro, Super Pro and Door Dinger. I wonder how those animals that made the drunken racket until 7:30 in the morning fared on race day. Oh… wait a minute…

A certain un-named lazy bastard has been neglecting his duties at Surrey in A Hurry sunning himself on the beaches of Hawaii. In that time, it seems a stockpile of news has been building up.  And while all the details aren’t in, the highlight reel must include Surrey In A Hurry’s own Zak Clarke’s recent string of luck.

In back to back weekends, Zak and the Beretta have gathered up an impressive three consecutive wins and a runner up.

Details are a little sketchy on the Super Pro win, but he may have had some help over in Door Slammer… One of the two ‘Dinger wins came courtesy of Rob Charlton and his gorgeous S-10 pickup. Charlton had the Beretta covered and the race was his — until he tightened the top end up a bit too much — delivering Zak a 0.0016 stripe on a silver platter. That’s sixteen TEN thousands of a second there… probably the thickness of a sheet of paper in the lights.

Finally, the runner up also happened in Door Dinger, but this one was pretty much over from the start. Grant Howl ran his number with 6 after taking a 0.004 whack at the tree. A ten thou package in Door Slammer? Wow… nice work Grant!
